Thireletso Ka Thuto

About the Tshireletso ka Thuto Food Safety Campaign led by the CUT-W&RSETA Research Leadership Chair

Tshireletso ka Thuto, meaning Protection through Education, is a pioneering initiative committed to promoting food safety awareness, education, and empowerment across South Africa. This campgain in run by the CUT-W&RSETA Rdsearch Leadership chair where we believe that protecting public health starts with equipping communities, small businesses, and informal food handlers with the tools and knowledge they need to operate safely and sustainably.

Rooted in community upliftment and powered by strong partnerships, the programme is driven by a shared vision: to reduce foodborne illnesses, improve hygiene practices, and enable a culture of safety and accountability in the food economy—especially where formal education and resources are limited. We work closely with municiaplities and provicial departments to futher our mandate.

Our work includes:

  • Interactive training sessions for informal traders, spaza shops, and SMMEs
  • Easy-to-use resources and toolkits on food hygiene and regulation
  • Community engagement events and partnerships to create long-term impact

By empowering those at the grassroots level, Tshireletso ka Thuto creates a ripple effect—uplifting public health, supporting entrepreneurship, and building safer, more resilient communities.

Join us in championing a safer food future, where every plate served is a step toward dignity, knowledge, and economic inclusion.
